Episode 001: Clean Beauty for Black People ft. Alicia Scott, Founder of Range Beauty
Episode one of The Hue Report is here, y’all! It feels so good to officially kick off season one with such a special guest, Alicia Scott. Alicia is the founder of Range Beauty, a clean beauty brand for the forgotten shades, specially formulated for eczema and acne-prone skin. I first discovered the brand last year while doing an article for Byrdie about the best vegan and cruelty-free foundations for women of color and have been such a fan of Alicia and Range Beauty ever since.
And ICYMI: Range Beauty was also featured on @beyonce’s Black Parade Route — an incredible list of Black-owned brands curated by @zerinaakers of @black.owned.everything.
Our Convo
During our chat, Alicia dropped so many gems and provided unfiltered insight into what it’s like being a Black beauty founder. “A challenge for a lot of Black-woman owned businesses is definitely capital. So, my business has been majority boot-strapped by my own funds. I was working a 9-5 up until last year when I quit to do this full-time. So, that money…I was using whatever was leftover from paying my rent, bills, etc. and putting it into Range,”Scott said.
Tune in for our discussion about how her career in fashion led to the creation of Range Beauty, her experience with pitch competitions + tips for winning, and her favorite beauty brands.
